It seems to be taking them longer and longer to walk anywhere. Edie -- somehow, impossibly, four years old -- reminds Alex more and more of Darlington. Her dark hair is unruly, her expression searching and thoughtful, and she's into everything. The pockets of Alex's good black coat end up full of stones and leaves and feathers, pieces of paper and little plastic toys. While she knows her daugher is half Daniel Arlington, she's not entirely sure she isn't half magpie, too.

They're in Petros Park, Kirby off the lead and loping about the place, a shadow in the corner of Alex's eye. Alex is sat on a bench, shoulders hunched in her coat. She's staring into space, not really thinking about anything. She's been on anti-depressants since just after Danny disappeared but, sometimes, she can still feel it -- depression yawning up somewhere underneath her like a pit that it would be so, so easy to just slip into. But then, there's Edie, kicking through fallen leaves in her boots and her biker jacket, the frills of the skirt that she'd picked out that morning frothing around her knees, and she's a tether, holding Alex to the world, and that's something to be grateful for, in the end.

"Mama!" comes the little voice and Alex looks up, startled out of whatever reverie she'd been lost in. She holds out her hands.

"What is it, baby?" she asks, ready to receive whatever treasure it is that her little girl has for her. Ready to keep going.

ooc: Find Alex and Edie in Petros Park, any time of day that suits your pup (even if it needs to be as the sun goes down! ALternatively, meet them on the walk home. ST/LT welcome).

Sept 2025:
In the absence of feeling sensations like hungry or tired, Lisa has discovered a whole new meaning to the sensation of boredom.

Aggie and Lisa bump into each other along the ley line.

[meme] test drive

Tag into this post with characters you're thinking of apping to the game (characters who are not currently in-game or currently reserved by someone else). It can be just a tag, a brief EP, whatever you want. You can be new to the game, or simply want to test out a fresh pup. Tag each other with these characters or those already in game, and have fun.

At the gym

Jack had always maintained his body. At first, it was because he had to pass PT tests and had enough of a competitive streak that he didn't want to just barely pass. He'd realized fairly quickly that he liked it, though, or at least some parts of it. He'd never enjoyed running and was pretty sure that those people who swore that they got endorphins from running were absolutely fucking making things up. Obviously endorphins were a real thing, but nothing about running was fun even when he had two feet.

When he'd been deployed, there usually hadn't been much else to do in his off hours besides sleep, eat, and work out, so he'd done those three things. He'd built his body into something that was useful for his job and his life, since it wasn't a bad thing to look damn good naked. His wife had certainly seemed appreciative of it, anyway, when he'd been back for R&R.   It had also turned out to be useful during rehab and after, since he had to use his upper body to haul around his lower body.     Now, thirty years on from enlisting and twenty from his amputation, he could and did smoke the young muscleheads who saw the grey hair and prosthetic and assumed he was no match for them.  It was fun.

He'd had a shift last night, so after some sleep and some food, he'd gone over to the gym for an hour or so.  He'd felt like working his upper body today, so now all those muscles were pleasantly tired and his hair was still damp and curly from his post-workout shower.   He stepped out of the gym with his workout duffel slung over his shoulder, then glanced at his watch.  He had a few hours before he was back on shift, so he could grab some coffee and a meal.  Food first, of course, since he'd just used up a whole lot of energy.

[[Find Jack at the gym of your choice in a t-shirt and shorts (below knee right leg prosthetic visible) or leaving the gym in workout pants (prosthetic not visible). Great time to meet him.]]
