Or maybe it wasn't. Maybe I'd just had a long night. I'd been real good lately. I hadn't done anything too terribly dangerous or embarrassing or illegal. But some nights, when the dark, sad, squirmy feelings in my stomach got to be too much, I had to go out dancing. I had to get a little too drunk.
I should've called Klaus. I should've gone to Obi-Wan. They had a way of making the unbalanced parts in my head feel blissfully quiet and stable, but I hadn't always been great at doing what was best for myself.
Still wearing the wrinkled dress from last night, makeup smudged and hair a mess, I shuffled to the door, swinging it open and squinting at the lady standing there enveloped in Klaus's coat.
And Klaus's boots.
"Okay, I'm gonna need some coffee to handle this."
