It isn't as if he thought Obi-Wan wouldn't want him involved, if he were asked. It's more his own insecurities that gave him pause, but he has to admit that Obi-Wan has a good point.

"I'm a good example of what not to do," he jokes, smiling a little as he turns his face to nuzzle into Obi-Wan's palm as he thinks about it.

"I'll do what I can," he says after a moment, because he doesn't want to commit fully to something so big, not without thinking about it more. It seems very big, but something that could be good for him, maybe. He just isn't so sure that he would be good for it.
