When Klaus learns that Obi-Wan has never had the proper movie theater experience, he decides to change that. He genuinely enjoys showing Obi-Wan new things, little things that he came to take for granted during his years of freedom. Ben always liked going to the movies, but Klaus usually found it hard to focus on them, for the most part. Probably because he was high most of the time.

Today, he isn't high! Well, a little, but it's just weed. And okay, he did have a cocktail or two with lunch, but he's not out of it. He's leveled, is the point.

He picks the older theater downtown, a one-screen with velvet seats and a balcony. It's better than the bland, cookie cutter multiplex by the mall. It makes him a little nostalgic for the sixties, actually. He really did have so much fun there, for awhile.

After buying two tickets at the tiny box office, Klaus ushers Obi-Wan into the lobby and heads for the concession stand. "First stop, popcorn. Have you had popcorn?"

On the first day of the new year, Klaus wakes up feeling like, well, like a building fell on him.

He's sore all over, and when he rolls out of bed to take a piss, he winces slightly at his reflection in the mirror. There's bruising surrounding the cut on his forehead, which stretches from just above his brow and into his hairline. Well, that glancing blow could have been a lot fucking worse.

Other than his leg, which he can't put much weight on, it's mostly just little scrapes and cuts all over, and a few bruises here and there. It would have been a lot worse if Obi-Wan hadn't been there, and the realization that Obi-Wan very well may have saved his life bowls him over enough that he has to grab the edge of the sink.

Well, if he hadn't, at least Klaus would have died a hero. But he didn't die. So, yay!

Obi-Wan is in the living room meditating, and Klaus walks past him to pour himself some vodka. Usually he is not so cavalier about his drinking in front of Obi-Wan, but it's not like the other man doesn't know that he has a problem. He just hasn't really seen it in action.

And he doesn't today, either. Klaus drinks enough to dull the pain and the spirits, some fresh from the night before. They're so especially loud when they're new. He wants to drink more, to maybe drink until he can't feel at all, but he won't allow himself. Dull, not numb.

It's probably the most domestic day they spend together. Obi-Wan spoils him without coddling him, and Klaus spends most of it relaxing after checking in with his siblings to make sure that they're all safe. It doesn't occur to him to mention his close call or the injuries he sustained, so he just says that he's fine, because he is.

He stays over again and then after a leisurely morning, tells Obi-Wan that he's going to go home for awhile. As much as he enjoys Obi-Wan's company, he could use a little time to himself, and Obi-Wan probably could, too. They can't spend all their time together, after all. As much as Klaus sometimes wants them to, in his wilder moments.

The house isn't that far but he splurges for a cab anyway, because fuck it, his leg hurts. When he lets himself in, he pushes his sunglasses up into his hair and then looks over into the sitting room, where Vanya is curled up with a book.

"Hello sister," he says casually, wincing a bit at his bruised ribs as he takes off his coat and turns to hang it up.
